Mr David Willis
External Member of Council, Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee
David is a solicitor admitted in both England and Wales and Hong Kong who practised as a corporate lawyer with particular experience of privatisations and other major government related projects. He was a partner in international law firm Herbert Smith Freehills for 25 years until his retirement in 2014 and was the firm’s Managing Partner and then Joint CEO for the last 6 years of this period.
David joined the QMUL Council in 2014, and chairs the Audit and Risk Committee.
David is chairman of Paradigm Trust, a multi-academy trust responsible for schools in Tower Hamlets and Ipswich. He is a solicitor member of the board of the Solicitors Regulation Authority, where he chairs the Finance and Audit Committee. He is a Vice-Chair of United Response, a charity supporting adults with learning and other disabilities, where he chairs the Finance and Resources Committee.
