Council Tax Exemption Letter

Queen Mary no longer provides council tax exemption letters for students living in the following boroughs:

  • Newham
  • Redbridge
  • Tower Hamlets
  • Waltham Forest

Instead we provide information directly to the Council.  Therefore you do not need to request a council tax exemption letter. However, you must ensure that your term time address is up to date in MySIS

If you live in one of the following boroughs you must also complete the councils student disregard form and return it to them in order for your exemption to be processed:

Redbridge: student disregard application form

Tower Hamlets: student disregard application form

Waltham Forest: student disregard application form

Please note: Newham Council does not require you to fill out a disregard form. The Redbridge and Waltham Forest disregard forms may ask you to upload a student certificate. As a Queen Mary student you will not need to supply this, please just upload a blank document in this part of the form.

For those living in other council boroughs, you will need to request a council tax exemption letter to provide your local council with proof that you are a full time student so that you can be exempt from paying council tax. This letter is on Queen Mary headed paper and contains the university stamp and seal and the following information:

  • Name of student
  • Intended award
  • Programme of Study
  • Date of Entry to Programme
  • Mode of Study
  • Expected Date of Completion

The letter also includes your term and home address taken  from your student record. Please check your details are up to date on MySIS before requesting this letter.

Interim Transcript

An interim transcript will list all completed years' modules and their overall grades.

Please note due to provisional results appearing on transcripts whilst they are processed and confirmed at the exam boards, there are periods of time when the Student Enquiry Centre cannot provide transcripts.  These dates are:

Undergraduates (non-MBBS & BDS): 01 June – 12 July 2016
For students taking late summer resits: 26 August – 11 September 2016
Postgraduates †: 01 June – 26 July 2016 and 26 August – 03 November 2016

† Not all Schools and Institutes consider continuing postgraduates’ results in their summer exam boards.  If they do not, we will not be able to provide you with a transcript until the official publication date of 4 November 2016.

Due to a change in the tuition fee debt policy for the BUPT students, I'm afraid the Academic Registry is no longer able to provide transcripts to students on our BUPT programmes. BUPT students need to contact the BUPT JP Administrator staff in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science for transcript requests: http://www.eecs.qmul.ac.uk/people/admin

Withdrew from Queen Mary?

If you left Queen Mary without having completed your course you can request a transcript from us that will list all of the modules you studied and the marks obtained.

You can either come to the Student Enquiry Centre in person, along with some form of ID such as a passport or drivers licence, and we will let you know if you need to make a payment or not and we will print the transcript for you there and then. Alternatively, you can request the transcript via email: studentenquiry@qmul.ac.uk
