QM Clearing Hotline Operators

Queen Mary University of London recruits 3000+ new undergraduate students every year, some of them through Clearing. The Clearing Hotline allows mainstream applicants to know if their place has been confirmed and is the first point of contact for many Clearing applicants. As such, it plays a crucial role in assisting the University to reach its student recruitment targets.

Do you remember what the tension was like while you waited to see if your place at university had been confirmed, maybe you have your own experiences of gaining a place to study through Clearing? Do you think you can deal sympathetically but efficiently with a prospective student in that position?

The Admissions Office is looking to recruit a team of telephone operators to work on its Clearing Hotline, which is usually in operation for about four - five days in August. We are looking to appoint operators:

  • with strong communication skills
  •  with basic computer skills, to be able to input data on an in house computer system (training given)
  • who can keep their head while working under pressure
  • who are able to promote QMUL to prospective students

Standard rate of pay is £10.20 per hour.

The publication of the A level results will be Thursday 16th August 2018, successful applicants for this post should be available to work from this date. You should also be available for two compulsory paid training sessions – the first of these will take place on Friday 10th August and a further training session on either Tuesday 14th or Wednesday 15th August.

In addition to the paid training, we will initially be employing 100 operators who will be guaranteed at least one days’ work on Thursday 16th August. A total of 50-60 of those operators will also be guaranteed work on the Friday 17th August. 15-30 operators who work on the 16th and 17th will also have the chance to work an additional three days - Saturday 18th, Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st August.

Hours of work are usually:

A total of 100 telephone operators required on Thursday 16th August: 7.15am -7pm

A total of 50-60 telephone operators required on Friday 17th August: 7.45am -7pm.

A total of approximately 15 telephone operators required on Saturday 18th August: 9am-2pm

A total of approximately 20-30 telephone operators required on Monday 20th and Tuesday 21st August: 9am-5pm
